Stuart McHarrie
Stuart McHarrie lives in Greenwich, South East London and studied fine art at Central St Martins. He has worked as an artist, art director and illustrator throughout his career, but over the past decade has focused his attention on producing paintings.
Stuart paints seascapes along with portraiture and still lifes. His work is inspired by the inanimate object within landscape – the juxtaposition of solid concrete walls, buildings and structures set against the flatness of the beach and sea.
Working in oil and acrylic, he creates sharp delineation within his narrow colour palette, yet allowing the paint to leak and infiltrate the surrounding surfaces.
We have focused on showing you his portraits here, which is what we know him for best, and have his work in our private collection.
“I don’t really have a particularly rigid philosophy about what I do, although I have a very clear visual view of what I want to do - I’m not really trying to a make a point to anybody”
